My ideal way of cooking is to stuff my fridge with healthy produce and make it up as I go.
I truly do not like following exact recipes. Find it boring, time consuming and distracting.
I mean… who sets all those rules??? Food is food. As long as it is nutritious and delicious does it have to be exactly the way somebody else cooked it?
Let me share the making of my Spontaneous Pizza from Scratch! It was so good!
And you do not need to make it exactly how I did. This is just an example.
The Dough
- Dried-active yeast, dash of sugar, salt, butter (or olive oil).
- Add warm water (cup or two depending on how much flour you plan to use).
- Stir till it all melts.
- Add flour while mixing and continue while you feel the dough is workable.
- Cover it up and let it sit for few hours.
Toppings
That’s where the creative fun begins.
As I said I didn’t plan this ahead. Figured I have enough produce in the fridge to make it up.
- Pesto makes a great pizza spread. It is one of those things I like to have in the fridge for just incase.
- Mushrooms & Herbs makes a delicious and nutritious topping.
This topping would have made extra time to prepare, but I already had cooked shiitake mushrooms in the fridge since I like to cook in bulk and then mix and match.
Tossed those fragrant shiitakes and some herbs like cilantro and spring onion in the electric chopper. No seasoning as I find pesto to be salty enough.
- Chicken
Shredded chicken is one of my favorite hacks, as it can go a long way in many situations.
I boiled an entire chicken in a hotpot (pressure cooker). Broth became to be a delicious soup and deboned-boiled-shredded-chicken can be used for salads, sandwiches, stir-fry and many more.
You can see this spontaneous pizza already had all the toppings in the fridge.
- Cheese! of course!
Grated cheddar was great, but in my opinion any type of cheese can do on a pizza.
Recommend using parchment paper or non-stick liner. It helps to avoid sticky disasters and makes washing up easier.
Also preheat the oven to 380 degrees (F). (You can turn the oven on before you start putting the toppings on the pizza).
Cook for about 20 min or when the crust is matching your desired look.
I hope you enjoyed the idea of creative cooking and you will enjoy your creative meals.
This kind of way gets faster and easier with practice and time. Use your instincts, taste buds and common sense in the kitchen and you will go a long way.
Cooking does not have to be so complicated.
