SELF-CARE IS AN INVESTMENT
Self-care has become a very popular topic. As we grow older, become busier, dedicate ourselves to our children, work, and million things that consume our time and energy….
When and how to make space for improving our wellbeing?
So how to help us figure out a way to prioritize little bit of ‘ME TIME’ and improve our “SELF-CARE”?
Most of us have a slightly different idea of what self-care is and how we fulfill it. Some focus on entertainment, reading a good book, cosmetics and skin care, exercise, food, a night out with friends and the list goes on… and yes! all of this is good as long as it serves YOU well.
We cannot take someone else’s list of self-care and follow it blindly. Why? Because that list was not designed for your personal wellbeing needs.
So, let’s go back and take a look at the actual definition of self-care:
- the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health: “autonomy in self-care and insulin administration.”
- the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress: “expressing oneself is an essential form of self-care” ยท “self-care methods such as meditation.”
now LET’S take a deep breath and ask Yourself again. WHAT IS SELF-CARE?
If You feel like it, go back and read the definition again.
Now ask Yourself:
WHAT IS SELF-CARE TO ME?
To serve us well we need to know ourselves, listen to our inner voice, our gut. There is no point to force it, if it does not bring us joy nor improve our well-being. We have to prioritize.
Key Elements for choosing what serves You well:
- Choose a combination of activities for Body, Mind and Soul.
- Make a realistic plan and be consistent.
- Differentiate things that are fun but are not good for you, and things that are maybe challenging but are enhancing Your health.
- Replace bad habits with new good habits.
- Do not quit. Even if you feel like you might be failing, remember that it is a long-term plan of maintenance.
- Try new things!
CONCLUTION
I hope we sparked some questions and ideas at this point. I believe we can be the creators of our own well-being on many levels. It is entirely up to us to create our own magic. Guidance does not have to be an exact recipe, because most of the time we already have the answers.
Last but not least, remember, self-care is not a quick fix. It is a forever evolving, developing and adjusting to your needs concept.
