As we all know family activities can get expensive, specially when you are a homemaker and your entire family is living under one income.
We prioritise quality family time over expensive activities, so we can be together more. We are living in Toronto and love our outings. If you are new in Canada or simply looking for changing up your lifestyle and maybe save a little, here are our favourite activities that cost from little to nothing and is still wonderful and fulfilling.
Trails, parks, playgrounds
There are so many beautiful nature spots even in the middle of the city of Toronto. Google locations near you and you will discover so many hidden treasure.
Toronto has so many playgrounds for children where I also love to do my exercise while watching my kiddos play.
Toronto High Park even has a free mini zoo!
One of our favourite activities while strolling through nature is identifying vegetation and even wild foraging. So much to learn! All you need is to tune in!
Toronto Community Centers
Some centers offer different activities, so you will need to look up few to find what you desire.
In summer we love to attend our local outdoor swimming pool and in winter we visit a different community center where we go ice-skating. Some centers offer indoor ice-skating, some outdoor. It is all free and facilities are in excellent condition. Just bring your own skates.
YMCA
YMCA is a great family leisure center with so much to offer at a great price range. YMCA even offers a discounted memberships for those with lower income. Make sure you ask before you register.
Our kids are participating in Karate, Swimming and Multi Sports summer lessons and are loving it!
Lakes and beaches
Don’t know how about you, but I love being next to water. Regardless if it is a winter stroll or summer beach bliss I love it all! so refreshing and healing.
One of our favourite places in the city (that is easy to access either with public transport or driving) is Woodbine Beach. Lovely long boardwalk and an epic sandy beach with beautiful Lake ontario view and CN tower on the side.
Cineplex family favourites
Cinema is so fun and sometimes the weather is not permitting a chill outdoorsy activity.
Cinema for a full family can get expensive too, but family favourites show good classic family movies every saturday morning for only 2.99$ plus tax per ticket. Totally worth it! Still a full movie experience for so much less.
It is always possible to save a little and still have a great time. I hope this was useful.
