FIRST TIME CAMPER TIPS

How to plan and what we learned from our first time camping experience.

CAMPING
EASY DINNER WITH MY MINNIES

Family fun and leisure is so important and outdoors is the best!

Planning and preparing for camping trips can be overwhelming and I would love to share with you 6 key points and tips of what makes it work for me.

Just to note we are based in Ontario Canada and I am sharing the experience of the first independent camping trip we did as a family of four.

1. SEASON

If you are a beginner I assume you will go camping in the summer as it will be the easiest to plan.

Do a specific research on wild life, dangers and difficulties depending on the season and location you plan to visit.

2. LOCATION

For the first time camper, to be safe I would suggest choosing a location that is within 1h drive from home. Choose an easy location where you will be able to get help incase of emergencies. I suggest staying 2-3 nights. 1night might not be enough to settle in. Packing and unpacking takes time.

3. WEATHER

As we know we can not order exact weather we want. Do not cancel your trip if it is going to rain or be less warm. Simply bring good clothing, waterproof shoes, raincoats and hats.

Avoid getting your hair wet before the night if you wont be able to dry it. It can get cold sleeping in a tent at night, specially when its raining.

4. PACKING

Packing is a big job so you gonna have to plan well and make notes!

First of all I focus on everything we are going to NEED!

Then I split the list into section:

SLEEP (warmth and comfort is the key)

EAT (have easy dinner planned for the first night, plan your meals for each day, pack lots of snacks)

DRINK (look up information on drinking water situation in the location you are visiting)

STAY WARM (extra layers)

STAY DRY (rain coats, waterproof shoes, waterproof tent)

STAY CLEAN (necessary toiletries)

PROTECT FROM BUGS AND SUNBURN (long sleeves cover up, hats, spray, lotion, essential oils)

Then in each category write down each item.

Try not to overpack!

5. ARRIVE EARLY

The earlier you get there the easier it will be to prepare before it gets dark and more time will be left to enjoy the nature.

The very first thing you should do is to get your tent set up and plan the dinner.

6. THE SIZE OF YOUR CAR

Always keep in mind when planning, all the things you will need to fit into your car. You might have to play Tetris with your camping gear.

CONCLUTION

Do not be scared to be adventurous. Get all your family involved in the process. You will learn from your own mistakes and experience.

YOU CAN DO IT!
