I will show you an easy DIY project that will:
Minimize waste, cost nothing, look great and be very useful.
Lets get started!
- Select all your t-shirts that you no longer wish to wear. Most of my clothes I donate and some I refashion or upcycle.
2. Lets start cutting! I recommend good quality scissors made for textiles!
First cut from the bottom of the shirt. Cut from the side across the shirt and leave the very end uncut.
3. Best yarn 4cm-5cm wide.
4. First string cut diagonally from first split to the edge.
5. Then across from split to split and see how the first string will continue becoming longer.
6. Last cut from the cut to the edge.
6. Repeat the same process with all the shirts. Toss your scraps.
7. Roll up your yarn.
7. I recommend organizing your yarn balls in order from small to large.
Start crocheting with the smallest ball. That way you will complete the color circles as the mat gets bigger.
8. Time to choose your hook!
9. This is how correct size hook will look with the yarn.
For 4cm-5cm yarn I use 10mm hook size.
10. I assume you already know how to do basic crochet.
I start with 6 chains, connect, 2 more chains for the height, then a single crochet hook followed by a chain… single crochet hook, chain… and on and on we go.
11. Tie up the next yarn and continue.
12. Tuck the very last bit.
13. Bam! this is how the bottom side looks like.
14. Here we go! we have an awesome machine washable, recycled, hippie looking bathroom mat/rug!
I love it and I hope you do too!
I hope you will dare to try this out. I also filmed a video version of this tutorial incase you preferer to watch it.
Thank you very much for reading and watching.
With all my love
